The goal of rhinoplasty is to reshape the nose so that it complements other facial features. This is done through incisions inside the nose or on the underside of the nose between the nostrils. This gives access to the underlying bone and cartilage that is the framework of the nose.

Your nose can be reduced or built up by adjusting the framework; this is done by removing, moving, or adding bone and cartilage. Your skin and soft tissues will assume a new shape over this adjusted framework. Adjustments can also be made to improve the nasal airway.

After surgery, a degree of bruising and swelling can be expected. You will have a splint over the nose for one week, and you may have a nasal packing inside the nose for a day or two. Light activities can be resumed in several days, but strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks.
